post covid debt recovery for canberra

One thing that some people have picked up on and others have not is that life is NOT going to go back to normal for many people just because the immediate threat of Covid seems to have abated.

Some have lost their jobs. Others may have gotten their jobs back now, but find themselves behind on all their bills. (I think the govt. did a great thing by doubling the unemployment payment but for many people it still wouldn’t have paid their rent / mortgage let alone other bills). Some may have been paid to work from home and haven’t been out in months and realised how much money they’ve saved by not eating out and drinking in pubs etc… All economic forecasts say the recovery is going to be long and slow for many business and individuals.

What can you do about this? Not a lot really. If you run a business you’re going to have to look at more novel and interesting ways to pull clients in. If you work a job you have to also have to take into consideration any debts you may have built up in the downtime. Rent and mortgage holidays are fine now but eventually they will come knocking as too will the electricy, rates, water, credit cards and other things. Take this into account an try and clean these up as fast as you can. Rest assurred creditors will come calling eventually and this is expected to hit sometime after january when a string of mortgage and credit defaults are expected to hit the economy.

Nobody wants to withdraw super. Everyone says its a long term investement and for the most part thats right. The reality of it is is you are in debt and there’s a chance you could default on your mortgage or other debts to have to weigh up the lost interest on your super vs. the REAL cost of defaulting on your credit. This could include Credit black marks, default fees, default interest, or in some cases bankruptcy. If you’re disciplined you can put more super in later or work an extra year. If you loose everything to your name this is much harder to recover from.

Many situations people find themselves in will be different. There’s no one size fits all for these circumstances. Many of you will have to think outside the box on ways to either save money or make extra money to dig yourselves out of debt. I guess all i want is for you people to think about this properly and make a considered decision

If you do find your self in debt that seems like you can’t get out of do some research and learn your rights. There is a lot of stuff out there that can help you. Just don’t keep your head in the sand!

internet marketing

Facebook is a great tool for keeping in touch and a great way to get your Social media marketing kicking butt. The flip side to this is that is easy to get lost and get buried under the waves of social media information overloading. How does it go for promoting your business though? I had some people say to me it really works for them and (more people than not) say it didn’t do a lot for them.

I have tried it once and I have to say it did nothing for me. I am reasonably tech savvy and tried to target my ads as best as I could. I got a few new likes on my page but upon investigating these like seemed to have originated from Indonesia. I highly doubt they have any interest in or disposable cash to spend on the product I was advertising. You do HAVE to target your audience well and have a product that is high value enough that it recovers the cost of the advertising. It can be done tho. Last time I looked the minimum spend per month was $30.

This I find to be the most effective method of getting attention to your product. Lets say your selling pet products and you only mail products out with Australia. Sign up to as many Pet related groups that focus on Australia and post in there. At least these people will be receptive to your posts. Best of all it only costs your time! There are of course qualifiers for this statement. You need to post engaging content that makes people want to buy your stuff.

Facebook like pages are free to set up. Anything free is worth doing. With the Facebook pages its really hard to reach more than 10% of your pages followers with a post, unless people start sharing your content. Again for people to share youre post you need to have content that engages

One other thing I will point out is now more than ever (well really since the rise of myspace) social media alone does not cut it. You need a website. Anyone can access your site. You don’t have to be signed up to any particular social media site to access a website.

Remember there are people on facebook, twitter, youtube, ebay, twitch, tik tok, instagram and many others. Unless you’re going to be active on all of these sites (which if you have the time and money is probably worth it) you need a central funnel where everyone can access your content. Facebook is still the largest social media site, but many people can’t handle the informaton overload that comes with Facebook. Unfortunatley many of your posts will get lost on facebook. Instagram is simple, but people just scroll through it. Different people want different things out of social media.

If this sounds daunting, don’t fret it. We’ll be putting articles up showing you how to get your online presence started and how to maximise the effort you put in. Or hey, just get in touch and we can help you out too!

Ok here we go with the Click Canberra Facebook group:

Basically this will be positive space where we can promote our business, events and community news / ideas or whatever without the noise and distractions that some other Canberra centric groups seem to attract.

With that in mind we will be the sole decider of what goes up there, what stays up there and what we’re willing to accept and what format it goes up there in. We don’t want a group that attracts a million superficial posts per day that end up burying what we’re actually trying to do. If you want to cause a facebook dumpster fire there’s other groups for that.

If you want to post something you can either email us at admin@clickcanberra or just post on the page and we’ll either approve it or not or maybe add it to a general news post

penis owl

What is the story behind the famed Canberra Penis Owl?

Everyone I entertain from out of Canberra that see’s our famous Owl statue always asks me “what is with that owl?”. So here’s my answer as best as I can give it

Basically it was erected in 2011 under a public arts funding campaign. The then Melbourne based artist responsible Bruce Armstrong has been quoted as saying it wasn’t meant to look like anything other than an owl. It was only a few days after the statue was inserted into the grassy patch on Belconnen way / Benjamin way that it snickering child like Canberran’s started referring to it as the ‘Penis owl’ due to its phallic shape.

The “Canberra Penis owl” as it has come to be known, has inseminated potent discussions since then about the bang it provided for its buck coming in at $400,000 initially. But repeated vandalism and has more than doubled that cost according to word on the street.

I guess like it or hate it, you have to admit our phallic friend got Canberra and many parts of the rest of the country talking. One can question the validity of the artwork itself, but If you believe any publicity is good publicity…. It’s certainly gained our fair city some fully engorged notoriety!
